Twelve-year-old María Luisa O'Neill-Morales (who really prefers to be called Malú) reluctantly moves to Chicago with her Mexican-American mother and starts at a new school where she doesn't fit in. She meets some new friends, starts a punk rock band, and learns to express herself through her love of punk music and zines.
